Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam Negeri Sarawak (SPANS) was established in 1961 under The Sarawak (Public Service Commission) Order in Council, 1961, and serves to advise the Governor in accordance with the Order in Council is and whatever the regulations made from time to time until 15 September 1963. On 16 September 1963, the date of the formation of Malaysia, in line with Article 35, Section IV, the State Constitution (GNS 163/63) then spans have become a full executive body.
