Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan or MAIWP was established on February 1, 1974 simultaneously with the establishment of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur. MAIWP is also responsible to Labuan and Putrajaya after each declared as a Federal Territory on 16 April 1984 and February 1, 2001. Establishment intended to assist and advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as head of Islam in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya in relation to Islamic affairs as provided by Section 31 of the Administration of Islamic Law (Federal Territories) Act 1993 [Act 505].
